Monroe County Police Department asks residents to avoid area

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A suspicious device has been discovered during the arrest of a wanted fugitive at a Monroe County gas station.

Officials say the suspect was arrested during a vehicle search at the Pilot Gas Station in the 1100 block of North Dixie Highway.

Police say the arrest was made after their search revealed the suspicious device in the vehicle.

Officials said they had to contact the Michigan State Police Department Bomb Squad, which prompted the evacuation of the immediate area, causing police to ask residents to avoid the area.

“A homemade explosive device was found in the vehicle. The scene has been rendered safe and cleared by MSP Bomb Squad. We appreciate the public’s assistance. The investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.”
