“We are deeply grateful for the compassionate person who not only alerted us to this distressing situation, but also took it upon himself to help this poor little gal right away,” said HSHV CEO Tanya Hilgendorf. “It takes a village to look out for the innocent, voiceless animals in our community.”

HSHV staff said the dog is scared but has already found a potential home.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the HSHV Cruelty Investigation line at 734-661-3512 or leave a report online at www.hshv.org/report.

“Sadly, animal homelessness and abuse are on the rise in our community and many others. But we are here 24/7 to rescue and protect those who need us most. For families looking for support, we are here with open arms and without judgment,” said Hilgendorf. “We have a free pet food pantry, short-term housing and medical assistance for our furry loved ones in times of crisis. Our loving volunteers and staff are here both for the animals and their people.”

The humane society urges community members to be extra aware of any instances of animal neglect or abuse as temperatures drop throughout the winter.
