Bring a new or like-new kids books to our Go 4 It donation drive in Livonia on March 20!
When: March 20, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: MASCO Corporation parking lot at 17450 College Pkwy in Livonia
What to bring: We are collecting NEW or LIKE NEW children’s books (not used). We are collecting primarily books for students in Kindergarten through eighth grade but one of the schools is asking for books for their ninth and tenth grade classes they would like books for as well. They have about 100 children in each grade.
Books will go to schools helped by Chapter One and Teach for America, as part of our Magic of Reading Go 4 It campaign. Thanks to our Go 4 It partners, MASCO, Henry Ford Health and the Gilbert Family Foundation.
ChapterOne aims to create a world where all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Through high impact tutoring, they help children develop core phonics, word attack and fluency skills ensuring they have a strong literacy foundation. The program uniquely leverages technology to make the program affordable and students receive daily practice using tablets provided by ChapterOne for reinforcement of skills learned during tutoring. Partnering with over 200 global corporations, including Masco, they connect schools with corporate volunteers, helping thousands of young students develop their reading skills each year. TFA Detroit has a ten-year goal that by 2030, twice as many economically disadvantaged children in Michigan will reach key education milestone indicating they are on a path to economic mobility and creating a future filled with possibility. Their goal calls them to consistently recruit great educators, develop them into system-level leaders with can deliver for their students, school and communities; and connect with each other and broader coalition to advance state and local policies, practices and innovations that drive great equity and excellence.
