The Go 4 It: Magic of Reading Book Drive is underway in Livonia and it’s going great. The cold weather hasn’t stopped anyone from showing up to donate thousands of new and like-new books for K-8 children.

Starting early in the morning, community members -- despite the cold and snow -- showed up and donated children’s books for a good cause.

From former teachers to friends of libraries, there’s a variety of community members who took time out of their day to support the Go 4 It: Magic of Reading Children’s Book Drive.

The books collected will go to Metro Detroit students in grades K-8 and support two local nonprofits and their reading and literacy initiatives.

Chapter One uses volunteers to help tutor children in reading enrichment and Teach for America Detroit supports educators and their work, many of them on campuses in underserved areas.

Community members said they know reading allows children to use their imaginations and books can open their minds to many possibilities.
