The park also includes a self-guided history trail that allows visitors to learn about the land that was once a tuberculosis sanitarium.
Originally the Detroit Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium, then named after William H. Maybury, the land served as home for the sanitarium until it closed in 1969. Several years later, Maybury State Park took over the area.
Markers show where buildings from the sanitarium once stood and describe what happened in those areas when the sanitarium was active.
Experience the park on horseback by visiting the Maybury Riding Stables. Riders can take group tours or private tours through Maybury.
All skill levels are able to enjoy a horse ride, as instruction is given prior to rides and assistance is available. Younger riders can take a pony ride at the stables as well.
Bicyclists can enjoy paved bike trails and mountain bike trails.
The park also includes a pond that can be used for fishing, as well as playgrounds, baseball fields and soccer fields.
A group camp facility for overnight camping and picnic shelters both can be reserved at the park.
Friends of Maybury State Park host numerous events, including cleanup days and guided trail walks.
