Taylor firefighter finishes mowing heart attack victim's lawn

Heart attack victim still in critical condition

TAYLOR, Mich. – A neighborhood in Taylor is bursting with community pride after a resident used CPR to help a man who was having a heart attack.

"The man was laying on the ground over there," resident Renee Oelke said. "Another person was doing chest compressions."

Oelke said her neighbor, Dan Zimni, had a heart attack while he was cutting the grass. A neighbor was doing CPR, and 911 was called.

Two Taylor firefighters arrived at the home, put Zimni in an ambulance and sped off. One of the two firefighters went in the ambulance, too, but Chris Hudson stayed to clean up the mess from all the instruments they used.

Hudson's definition of "scene is clear" was different from the norm. He finished Zimni's yard work, and Oelke's husband caught it on camera.

By the time Hudson returned to the station, the Facebook post was already up.

"About 10 minutes after I got back, I got the first text," Hudson said. "'Hey, I think you're on Facebook.'"

In a matter of hours, the video had been watched thousands of times. There were comments ranging from people giving thanks to offers of lunch.

"I just cut the guy's lawn," Hudson said. "It's nothing big in my mind. It just snowballed from there."

Zimni is still in critical condition. His family is praying for the best.
