DETROIT – Local 4 has learned that Detroit radio personalities Drew and Mike of 101- WRIF will be replaced by former 89X duo Dave and Chuck the Freak.
Sources said Dave and Chuck the Freak have been under a non-compete agreement since their exit from 89X in November.
"We decided at this time it was best to make a change," said Market Manager Steve Chessare.
The station wouldn't say why the due was being replaced.
"They want a young audience and Dave and Chuck the Freak have certainly proven that they are able to provide that," said Dick Kernan from Specs Howard School of Media Arts.
In a statement, Greater Media Detroit said Drew Lane and Mike Clark's last broadcast will be May 17. They'll take calls from viewers and past on-air contributors
The morning show, which includes longtime newsperson Trudi Daniels, is ending after entertaining listeners for the past 22 years.
"We would like to thank Drew, Mike, Trudi and the entire team for their many contributions to the station over the years in the Motor City," said Greater Media Detroit Market Manager Steve Chessare. "They are true professionals and we are very grateful to them."
