5-year-old girl shot on Detroit's west side

Girl now able to talk, but remains in critical condition

DETROIT – A 5-year-old girl was shot Saturday afternoon on Detroit’s west side, according to police.

The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. in the 16000 block of Mark Twain Street after a hit-and-run accident that turned into a road rage incident.

Police said two vehicles were involved in an accident. The driver with the 5-year-old girl in it followed the other driver to a home where the second driver ran inside and opened fire.

Police believe two weapons were involved, one of which could be an AK-47.

The first driver took the girl to the hospital. The 5-year-old girl is now able to talk, but remains in critical condition.

A grandmother was making breakfast when the shooting happened. She told her grandkids to crawl to the back of the house.

Police are searching for older model white Jeep SRT with red calipers. Police said they received multiple calls about the shooting and have an idea who they're look for.
