2 arrested with 12 kilos of cocaine in checked bags on red-eye flight from LA to Detroit

DETROIT – Two people are facing drug charges after six kilos of cocaine were found in two separate checked bags on a flight from Los Angeles to Detroit on Friday morning.

Maurice Deshunte Boraders and Macy Kissy Hood are accused of conspiracy to and possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances, specifically 10 kilograms or more of cocaine.

According to the criminal complaint, Boraders and Hood arrived at Detroit Metro Airport on the morning of October 20 after taking a red-eye flight from LAX the night before.

A DEA K-9 officer alerted positive to the odor of a controlled substance coming from their checked bags. The two suspects were interviewed and consented to the search of their possessions.

Officers found several brick objects consistent to kilogram bundles of cocaine.

Boraders is currently on parole from the Michigan Department of Corrections for an armed robbery he committed in 2002. He was also arrested on weapons charges in 2008 and was sentenced to prison.
