Police then announced they were looking for two more men: 30-year-old Ernest Coleman and 51-year-old Roy Portis. Coleman was taken into custody Thursday afternoon. Portis remains at-large.
Portis is described as a black man standing about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing about 180 pounds.
"We are talking about a defenseless child, an adult male armed with a gun, another coward preying on children," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig.
Anyone with information on Portis' whereabouts needs to call Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.
What happened
It's unclear what a motive for abducting Deontae Mitchell may have been. Police have not said anything about why these suspects would have grabbed the 13-year-old. Craig said it remains an active investigation.
Mitchell's cousin originally told police they were riding their bikes near Nino's Market when they saw a drunk man urinating outside. The man dropped some money and Mitchell picked it up, according to his cousin. Mitchell then was grabbed by a man, who was armed with a gun, and put in the back of a Chevrolet Impala.
