Homeowner shoots, kills 2 men on Detroit's west side

Police question 51-year-old homeowner after 2 men shot dead at home on Dexter

DETROIT – A 51-year-old Detroit man is being questioned regarding a shooting at his home that left two other men dead.

The shooting happened Tuesday morning on Dexter Street, which is near Livernois and the Lodge Freeway. The homeowner shot the men as they tried to break into the home. Police found them dead in the driveway.

Local 4 has learned that the same home was broken into last week. The homeowner has cooperated with Detroit police. It does not appear he will face charges.

"Chief (James) Craig said we will support those citizens who are responsible, legal Americans who are in possession of firearms," said Detroit police Sgt. Michael Woody.

This is the 9th time this year that a Detroit homeowner has shot and killed an intruder.
