2 robberies reported south of Wayne State University's main campus

DETROIT – Wayne State University sent out a crime alert notifying students of two robberies that were reported south of the main campus.

The first incident was reported last Tuesday at about 4:42 p.m. in the area of West Willis Street near the Lodge Freeway.

A 37-year-old man told police he was walking up to a residence when he heard someone passing by ask for money. The resident refused the request and kept walking. Seconds later a handgun was pointing at him and the man was demanding his wallet and phone. The victim surrendered the property and told the victim not to call the police.

The thief was described as black, 5 feet 8 inches tall, bald head and clean shaven. He was wearing a turquoise zip-up sweatshirt, blue jeans and blue and gray sneakers.

The second incident was reported Friday at about 10:50 p.m. on Third Street, south of West Willis Street.

A 24-year-old man told police he was walking to his parked car when he noticed two men walking behind him. When the victim reached his car, he unlocked his door and the two men ran up behind him. One of the men produced a handgun and the other ordered him to drop his keys and two bags. The victim complied and ran southbound and was injured.

The first carjacker was described as black, in his 20s, 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds and was wearing a black skull cap and black hooded sweatshirt. He was carrying a handgun. The second carjacker was described as black, in his 30s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 200 pounds and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
