2 suspects in Cipriano family baseball bat attack have new preliminary hearing date in May

Tucker Cipriano, Mitchell Young to stay in jail without bond until May 23 hearing

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Local 4 has learned from several sources that Tucker Cipriano and Mitchell Young have both confessed on video to planning and carrying out baseball bat attacks on Cipriano's family inside their Farmington Hills home.

The attacks killed Cipriano's father, Bob, and left his mother and 17-year-old brother in critical condition. Another brother escaped the attacks by hiding in a closet and calling 911 while his 8-year-old sister ran to the basement, sources said.

Tucker Cipriano and Young appeared with their court-appointed attorneys via video Friday at a hearing.

They are both facing murder charges, assault and armed robbery charges in connection with the attacks.

Young, 20, was composed in court. A much different sight from his arraignment earlier this week, when he broke down in sobs.

"Now he's had some time to come to understand that this overwhelming predicament in which he finds himself is his own reality," said Young's attorney, Michael McCarthy.

It was agreed between all parties that the case would be delayed a month so the attorneys could sift through mounting evidence.

"Depending on what comes out, it's my job to make sure everything is done pursuant to the law. And, try to mitigate the situation and do what's in the best interest of this young man," said Mitch Ribitwer, Cipriano's defense attorney.

Local 4 has learned that both men may have given statements to police.

What happened?

Police say Tucker broke into his parents' Farmington Hills home early Monday morning along with his friend. They planned to rob the place.

When Bob Cipriano found his eldest son at the home, a fight ensued. The 52-year-old father was beaten to death. His wife Rose and 17-year-old son Sal were severely beaten, too.

Young was arrested inside the house when police arrived. Tucker Cipriano was arrested just hours later in nearby Keego Harbor.
