STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Two men are dead after the car they were in crashed into a pole Sunday while fleeing police on 19 Mile Road between Dequindre Road and Ryan Road.
A 19-year-old Sterling Heights man was driving a black 2000 Ford Mustang convertible at a high speed while fleeing from Troy police when he hit a utility pole. He and his 20-year-old passenger from Troy are both dead.
Troy police said officers were terminating their pursuit at Troy's border when the vehicle crashed.
One man was pronounced dead on the scene and the other was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The crash brought down power lines on the side of the road. DTE says around 200 people are without power as a result of the downed power lines.
The crash is being investigated by the Sterling Heights Police Department.
