  • Blessings in a Backpack provides elementary schoolchildren who are on the federal Free and Reduced Price Meal Program with a backpack of food to take home for 38 weekends during the school year. Backpack food includes easy-to-prepare, ready-to-eat foods, like granola bars, juice boxes, mac and cheese, and oatmeal. In the Wyandotte district, 51% of the children attending qualify for a backpack full of food- $80 can feed one child for the whole school year.

  • Capuchin Soup Kitchen is a human service organization of caring and loving people inspired by the spirit of St. Francis. They service the poor who lack basic human needs.

  • The Corktown Citizens District Council works to preserve one of the oldest neighborhoods in Detroit. They work with the City government on zoning issues, historic preservation, and other development issues by sending out a newsletter and holding monthly meetings.

  • Detroit Meals on Wheels provides nutritious meals to the homebound elderly during Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and Labor Day holidays, along with some weekend and breakfast meals. The volunteer-based program supplements the DAAA-sponsored Meals-At-Home Program which provides daily meals Monday through Friday. Service delivery areas include Detroit, Hamtramck, Harper Woods, Highland Park, and the five Grosse Points.
