TAYLOR, Mich. – Police were called to the Southland Mall in Taylor this weekend when fights broke out during a carnival set up in the parking lot.
When police got to the mall, teenagers started fighting with the officers. Five officers were reportedly injured in the brawl, and one officer was injured to the point he won't be able to work for a couple of weeks.
Taylor police said multiple teenagers were taken into custody after refusing to leave the carnival and then fighting with police. One teenager was from Taylor and the rest were from Inkster and Romulus, police said.
The teens were taken to the juvenile detention center for charging.
People who were in the crowd and don't want to be identified said the carnival was packed around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when multiple fights broke out. The first brawl began when somebody killed a Canada goose, and the fight escalated. One person flashed a gun during the brawl, witnesses said.
When police were called to clear everybody out, Antonio Hall and his friends arrived and got out of their Uber.
Hall said it was chaos, with multiple fights and even young women fighting with police.
Hall said he was backing up with his friends when an officer came out of nowhere and tackled him. He was charged Monday with interfering with a police officer.
