5-year-old boy found safe after Port Huron Amber Alert

Boy's mother found dead in home; father in custody

PORT HURON, Mich. – Brand new information was released Monday about an Amber Alert and homicide investigation over the weekend in Port Huron.

Lydia Ball's body was found in the basement of her family's home Saturday, but nowhere to be found was her husband, Douglas Ball, or her 5-year-old son, also named Douglas Ball.

After an Amber Alert was issued, Oakland County deputies tracked the father down at a relative's house in Orion Township. The boy was safe and the father is now in custody.

While the investigation continues, flowers and a note rest outside the fence where neighbors say a kind family once lived.

What happened inside the home still has people living on Rawlins Street rattled.

James Stager lives across the street from the Ball family. He said he thought he knew Douglas, who is now accused of killing his wife.

"I knew Doug lost his job," Stager said. "Last I heard from them."

Police are still waiting for autopsy results.

Douglas Ball is expected to be arraigned Tuesday or Wednesday.
