73-year-old man killed when fire engulfs mobile home in Bedford Township

Home equipped with oxygen tanks, Sheriff's Office says

BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 73-year-old man died Monday night when his mobile home caught fire in Bedford Township. 

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said firefighters went to the Northtowne Meadows Mobile Home Community in the 6000 block of Telegraph Road for a structure fire.

Sheriff's deputies found the home engulfed in flames. They also found the man's 63-year-old wife on the front porch. She was safe, but her husband was still trapped inside the burning home. 

Firefighters rushed to make their way into the home where they found the 73-year-old man dead. 

The Sheriff's Office said witnesses reported loud explosions coming from the home. The preliminary investigation reveals the home was equipped with oxygen tanks.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by members of the Monroe County Fire Investigation Team and detectives from the Sheriff's Office.
