Family hopes Crime Stoppers reward will help catch killer in Detroit

Ja'Ron Gist murdered in July, family still searching for answers

No description found

DETROIT – Time has passed since Ja'Ron Gist was murdered but the pain hasn't gone away for his loved ones.

Just last month his 7th child was born.

"It's very hard dealing with a kid who has lost his father," said mother, LaToya Powell.

"I still hold my breath when there is a hard knock at my door," said Rita Gist, the victim's sister.

Rita Gist, the victim's oldest son Jalen and Powell stood together Tuesday afternoon as Crime Stoppers announced a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

"Please, please come forward so that our family can find closer and peace," said Rita Gist.

Ja'Ron Gist was shot and killed on July 31 at Visible Change Barbershop on Detroit's west side. A longtime barber and customer also were shot.

Months later, his family is still waiting for answers on what happened that day.

"Somebody is out there that did this and will they do it again that is the biggest thing," said Rita Gist. "We don't want anyone to experience what we've gone through."

Anyone with information on the murder is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.
