"Sonny's passing marks the passing of an era. His good nature and sense of humor touched everybody he met, and an encounter with Sonny was always memorable. I had the chance to work with Sonny for two days, and he gave me an oversized (compared to the ones he made jokes with on TV) Keewenaw Peninsula and signed it "Paul - without you there is no me"...a reference to his appreciation of the meteorologists in our profession. One time when we ran into each other, he noted my thinning hairline and said, "Paul, get a rug!" Generations of metro Detroiters watched and listened to Sonny over his 60-plus year career, and I join with them in mourning his passing and expressing my heartfelt condolences to his family."

"The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association mourns the death of Sonny Eliot, Honorary Lifetime Member of the DSBA. Sonny was a Hall of Fame broadcaster, proud Michigan resident, and a favorite of so many listeners and viewers here more than six decades. He will be sorely missed by everyone connected with radio and television. The DSBA extends its sympathy to his wife, Annette, his family and countless friends and followers. We sorely miss his zany weather reports and banter on the air!"
