Car crashes into house in Shelby Township, causes gas leak

Nearby homes evacuated due to gas leak; intersection closed

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 61-year-old man lost control of his car Friday evening and ended up crashing into a home near the intersection of 23 Mile and Ryan roads.

Shelby Township police say the driver said the accelerator on his Toyota Avalon was sticking while traveling eastbound on 23 Mile Road. The car sideswiped another vehicle before crashing into the home.

The crash caused a natural gas leak inside the home, police said. Nearby homes have been evacuated while utility crews work to fix the gas leak.

The intersection of 23 Mile and Ryan roads has been shutdown until repairs are complete.

Luckily, no one was injured.
