Freight train derails in Howell

Train to be towed to Owasso

HOWELL, Mich. – ​A freight train derailed Sunday morning in Howell while going 40 mph.

The derailment happened just after 9 a.m. near Oak Grove Road, north of M-59.

Brent Earl saw the train derail behind his home. He said he watched the freight cars drop off one by one.

His daughter, Zoe, woke up to the house shaking 

Twenty-three of the 80 cars that were on the tracks derailed.

Crane operators said they are working to get the cars back on the track.

Officials said it will take a few days for the train to be towed back to Owasso.

No injuries were reported.
