The coaster first debuted in 1991 as the world's tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster. Over the years, 26 million people have ridden the Mean Streak with its many rattling turns and steep drop hills.

"Mean Streak has, and always will be a significant part of our roller coaster legacy at Cedar Point," vice president and general manager of Cedar Point, John McClure, said. "But we have our sights set on the future of Frontier Town, and unfortunately, that means Mean Streak has to leave our line-up of world-class attractions."

Mean Streak will officially close on September 16 at 7:30 p.m. where its "last rites" will be given, followed by a procession from Frontier Town to the park's "Dead Rides Cemetery."

Guest will be able to ride Mean Streak daily up until September 5 when the park closes. The park will reopen September 10 and 11 for a special bonus weekend for those looking to ride the Mean Streak one last time.

The closing of the ride also falls on the opening night of Cedar Point's twentieth HalloWeekends and a final public riding will be allowed from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
