DETROIT – The Wayne State University community came together Tuesday on campus and paused for a moment of silence at the exact time Officer Collin Rose was shot last week. Rose's family talked about the life and love they've received since the incident.
Rose was killed seven days ago while out on patrol in Detroit. He was doing the job he loved, but in an instant, his life was lost. He was fatally shot while investigating a string of car break-ins.
Since that moment, people throughout the region have come together to support Rose's family. That continued Tuesday night as a vigil was held a week after the shooting. An emotional crowd of family, fellow officers and students gathered to remember Rose.

The pain was heavy for Rose's family, but his grandfather said the hundreds of people gathering on campus provided strength for the family's sorrow.
"I'm glad I didn't miss (the vigil)," Clifford Rose said. "We just feel the prayers and good wishes."
Many in the crowd didn't know Rose, but emotions of the loss touched them and left a new appreciation for law enforcement.
"To me, it was very important to come out because he sacrificed his life for us," a Wayne State student said.
"They all put their lives on the line," another student said. "They're here for us. They don't know us, but they're here for us."
Rose was remembered for his smile and his dedication to the badge.
The reality settled in that Rose was no longer with them, but his aunt believes he is smiling down on them, because he brought so many people together.
"Collin was special, and he made an impact his whole life," Cheryl Rose said. "I would suspect he will continue that."
