DEARBORN, Mich. – An officer with the Dearborn Police Department was arraigned Thursday on charges connected with allegations of improper touching during a traffic stop.
Justin Smith is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct and common law offenses.
The charges stem from an allegation by a woman who said she was improper touching during a traffic stop that occurred in May of 2016.
“The Dearborn Police Department is committed to remaining completely transparent in matters of this nature and we will continue to do that during the course of this investigation,” Dearborn police Chief Ronald Haddad said. “An ongoing internal investigation is underway and we will continue to monitor the criminal case in court.”
Smith was suspended without pay while awaiting court proceedings. He was released on a $10,000 personal bond.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Friday.
