Department of Defense considers Selfridge base in Macomb County for F-35 jet

Macomb County hopes to become home of F-35 jet

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Will Macomb County be the new home of the F-35 fighter jet?

A critical morning is ahead for Selfridge and Macomb County, as the Department of Defense will decide if the jets will move to Michigan. It's a once in a generation opportunity.

The F-35 is the prize, and the question is whether Macomb County's Selfridge Air National Guard base will land it. Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel is ready to sell Macomb.

Selfridge has been on closure lists, but has survived each time. It currently runs the A-10 Warthog.

The F-35 is the future. Lockheed Martin, which makes the F-35, already paid a visit to Macomb in recent weeks, meeting with various suppliers.

Bringing the F-35 to Macomb County would also bring jobs.
