DETROIT – Authorities are investigating an explosion Thursday morning at a home on Detroit's west side.
The explosion happened just after 3:30 a.m. in the 20000 block of Monica Street.
The blast was loud enough to wake neighbors blocks away. The windows in the home next door were blown out. Debris flew over 30 yards away.
The fire chief believes the cause was a gas leak.
No injuries were reported. The homeowners were not in the home at the time of the explosion. The husband suffered complications from a surgery last week, and he and his wife were at the hospital.
"People heard it three to four blocks away," said neighbor Leah Smith. "I'm just so glad I made it out."
