Detroit woman shot by 19-year-old over Facebook post, neighbors say

24-year-old woman shot in stomach

DETROIT – A woman was shot Wednesday morning on Detroit's west side, and neighbors said it's because of an argument that happened over a Facebook post.

Police helicopters were in the air Wednesday as officials actively searched for the shooter. The incident happened around 10 a.m. on Cherrylawn Street near Wyoming Avenue and Lyndon Street on Detroit's west side.

The suspected shooter was arrested around 3:30 p.m., police said.

Officials said a woman shot another woman outside a home on Cherrylawn Street during an argument over social media messages.

Makayla Hill, who turned 24 on Tuesday, was shot in the stomach, but she wasn't even involved in the disagreement.

Detroit police haven't confirmed that the argument was over a Facebook post, but they said a 19-year-old woman angrily stormed out of the home looking to shoot another woman with whom she had a dispute.

There was a crowd of young women at the home and police believe Hill tried to stop the shooting.

Family members said Hill's attempt to calm things down only made matters worse. The 19-year-old woman is accused of pulling the trigger as Hill grabbed her gun, shooting her in the stomach.

Police said Hill slumped to the ground, badly bleeding, and the family quickly drove her to the hospital. She's been with doctors for most of the day and is listed in serious condition.

The 19-year-old woman ran away from the home, which led to a full-fledged manhunt by Detroit police. Helicopters were overhead and officers were on foot as the search lasted for much of the day.

Officers found the 19-year-old not far from the scene. She's being held in police custody.

Detroit police want to charge the 19-year-old woman with assault with intent to murder. They're putting together a warrant package for the prosecutor.
