Did you attend Detroit's George A. Custer/Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in Detroit?

Share your memories with Help Me Hank's year-long School Project

George A. Custer Elementary School was built in 1920 on Linwood Avenue in Detroit's Martin Park neighborhood and renamed for Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall in 1993. (For Detroit architecture fans, the attractive building was designed by Malcolmson & Higgenbotham, the architects responsible for the Old Cass Tech High School and buildings at Wayne State and Eastern Michigan, plus the Henry and Clara Ford House in Boston-Edison.)

WDIV Local 4's Help Me Hank reached out to Detroit Public Schools offering to help a school in need. DPS introduced Hank Winchester and the Local 4 team to Thurgood Marshall Elementary (you may have seen the school driving on the Lodge -- it's located right off the highway on Linwood.)

You can go inside the school and read more about the project here. In addition to work at the school throughout the year, we'd also like to hear from alumni of school. Did you attend Custer/Marshall Elementary? If so, use our form to share your memories and we'll pull them all together for stories. We're also looking for photos from the school.
