DETROIT – A 23-year-old Ferndale man is accused of driving under the influence when he crashed his vehicle into a bus shelter Thursday morning on Woodward Avenue, killing one man and injuring another.
Korey Klimek is charged with operating under the influence causing death and operating under the influence causing serious injury. He was arrested and taken to a hospital to be treated for cuts to his face.
The driver was going northbound on Woodward Avenue near Euclid Street when he crossed several lanes of traffic and hit the shelter, police said. Two men were sitting at the bus shelter when the car smashed into them.
Mark Ross, 23, was killed. The other man at the stop was Ross' friend. He was injured and is listed in temporarily serious condition at a hospital.
Ross had stopped to say hi to his friend when he saw him waiting at the bus stop.
He leaves behind three young children.
Kilmek's brother said Korey had worked New Year's Eve at the Filmore downtown. The crash happened about 9 a.mm. Thursday morning.
