Family of woman fighting colon cancer gets its own mini Disney World

Mother fighting cancer for 9 months wants to take children to Disney World

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A mother who has been fighting colon cancer for the past nine months has been wanting to take her kids to Disney World, but staff members at McLaren Macomb hospital brought Disney World to her and her family Friday afternoon.

Jill Saputo's four children were surprised to see balloons, activities and characters from Disney World when they walked through the hospital doors.

"I was overwhelmed. It was like Olaf and the kids were screaming and I couldn't believe it," Saputo said.

Saputo wanted to take her kids to Disney World before she was diagnosed with colon cancer back in February.

"I was told at U of M after my diagnosis that I had two years to live and I said I was going to take my kids to Disney World. That was my goal and I almost got there and I'm still going to get there," she said.

She has gone through 12 rounds of chemotherapy, but her tumors recently started early to grow, though it's not breaking her spirit.

"I'm ready to fight. I'm not going to give up. My kids are worth my fight," Saputo said.

Saputo wants her story told so she can help spread awareness about colon cancer and tell people about the signs.

"I never thought I would have colon cancer. They ran a scan and found that I had stage four colon cancer and it had already spread to my liver. When you get diagnosed a lot of times, it's too late when you missed your opportunity and let it go too long," she said.

Saputo encourages people to get a colonoscopy. She went home from the hospital yesterday and will be preparing for another round of chemotherapy soon.
