Farmington spa owner accused of sexually assaulting woman during massage

Police say spa owner has no license, is registered sex offender

FARMINGTON, Mich. – A Farmington spa owner is accused of sexually assaulting a client during a massage at the Oriental Spa on Grand River Avenue.

Con Vuong, 43, is charged with three counts of sexual assault after a 23-year-old Livonia woman told police Vuong touched her breasts and genital area during what was supposed to be a massage on May 11 at Vuong's spa.

From Farmington police:

Upon her arrival, she was escorted to a massage room by Vuong where he instructed her to remove her clothing and lie on her stomach under a sheet on the massage table. Shortly after the massage began, the victim stated that Vuong instructed her to turn over and lie on her back. She did so at which time Vuong moved the sheet exposing her bare breasts. He then began to touch her breasts and genital area. At one point, Vuong grabbed the victims hand and placed it over his genital area. The victim then left the massage room in hysterics.

Vuong was arrested by Farmington police investigators. He was arraigned on three counts of 4th degree criminal sexual conduct charges last week. He received a $150,000 (10 percent) cash bond and must wear a tether. He is scheduled to be back in court May 26.

Police said Vuong is a registered sex offender and doesn't have a license or certification to practice massage.

“Not only is Mr. Vuong a registered sex offender, he holds no license or certification to practice massage," said Farmington Public Safety Director Frank Demers in a news release. "It’s clear his intent was to take advantage of this victim for sexual gratification. Because of the brazenness of his actions, it is likely that he has assaulted other women at his business in the past. We’re hoping that anyone who may have had a similar experience with Mr. Vuong at Oriental Spa will come forward. While the city of Farmington has an ordinance to regulate businesses offering massage therapy, people should take time to research the business to ensure that massage therapists are licensed."
