Five injured, dozens displaced by Ypsilanti apartment fire near EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. – An apartment building fire near Eastern Michigan University has displaced dozens of residents.

According to the Ypsilanti Fire Department, the initial call came in shortly after 12:30 a.m. of a fire inside an apartment at the University Green Apartments.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one apartment and the attic of the building. 

A total of five people were injured, two with smoke inhalation and burns, two with smoke inhalation that refused medical attention and one baby that was injured during a fall while escaping the building.

Roughly 35-to-40 people have been displaced by the fire.
