Ford World Headquarters evacuated due to smoke from transformer fire

Firefighters locate electrical fire in basement

DEARBORN, Mich. – Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn was evacuated Monday morning, according to a spokesperson.

The building was evacuated due to smoke in the building caused by a transformer fire.

The evacuation began with the first few floors and the entire building was evacuated a a precaution.

Firefighters located an electrical fire in the basement of the building.

Ford released the following statement:

Ford has evacuated the World Headquarters building due to a fire coming from an electrical substation in the basement of the building.  Dearborn Police and Fire Department are on the scene to ensure the safety of the employees."

DTE said the fire started in customer-owned electrical equipment in the basement. DTE cut electricity to the building as a safety measure at the request of Ford.

Employees were told to go home for the day.
