DETROIT – A groundbreaking ceremony for the new world headquarters of Little Caesars is set for Wednesday in downtown Detroit.
The Little Caesars Global Resource Center is expected to be a 234,000-square-foot, 9-story building at Woodward Avenue and Columbia Street – across from Comerica Park and near the new Little Caesars Arena.
The new headquarters campus is planned to be double the size of the current headquarters and will include a 2-story lobby, meeting rooms, a café, pantries, a 425-seat training room, screening rooms, fitness center and other dining and retail.
It is also planned to feature a “first-of-its-kind” facade with 14-foot-tall pizza slice glass shapes.
"This remarkable building, with its one-of-a-kind architecture, will be a shining example of what's possible in our city," said Christopher Ilitch, President and CEO of Ilitch Holdings, Inc. "Today's groundbreaking represents the next chapter of global growth for an iconic Detroit brand, founded by my parents, Mike and Marian Ilitch, in 1959 with a single store. My hope is that our growth, commitment and continued investment in our community and its people will serve as a catalyst for others to call Detroit and Michigan their home."
Olympia Development of Michigan has selected Detroit-based Brinker-Christman as the construction manager and Detroit-based SmithGroupJJR as the architect of record.
The company first announced in 2014 that it would be expanding in the city. The project is expected to be complete in 2018.
"Building the new Little Caesars world headquarters in downtown Detroit is another example of the Ilitch family's commitment to our city's future," Mayor Mike Duggan said. "It's great to see Detroit-based companies taking the lead on this major project, which will result in employment opportunities for hundreds of our residents."
Mike and Marian Ilitch co-founded Little Caesars in 1959 and bought the Red Wings in 1982. Mike Ilitch bought the Tigers in 1992.
