Jewish Community Center of Metro Detroit evacuated due to bomb threat

Centers across the country receive threats

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. – The Jewish Community Center of Metro Detroit was evacuated Wednesday after a bomb threat was called in.

A woman called the center and said there was a bomb in a box where there would be a lot of people. The woman who answered the phone said it was difficult to hear the caller.  The building was evacuated.

West Bloomfield Township police are on the scene and there is an investigation is underway.

Officials said at least 30 other Jewish centers across the country received threats, 16 of which were made Wednesday.

“There have been a variety of similar threats at JCCs around the country,” said Brian Siegel, CEO of the JCC of Metro Detroit.
