DETROIT – The first week of August saw more big stories in the metro Detroit area and across the nation.

Mystery surrounds jogger's shooting death
Ally Brueger was jogging along a gravel road in Oakland County when she was shot and killed.
Neighbors in the tight-knit community of Holly Township describe Brueger as a young woman with a passion for life. She died doing something she loved.
"Oh my gosh, this girl was a religious runner," said Thais Peck, a family friend.

Brueger, 31, ran the same 10-mile route each day. Neighbors said they usually saw her jogging with headphones on. She was focused on the run.
"She just minded her own business. She had her blinders on, and she would run every day, never missing a day," said Peck.

Families upset with 'Pokemon Go' players at park
Families in St. Clair Shores said they've had enough and want the city to do something about all the people playing "Pokemon Go" in their neighborhood.
Some of those families told Local 4 News the "Pokemon Go" players are out of control and are out at a park near their homes playing late into the night. They're upset that Wahby Park on Jefferson between Nine and 10 Mile roads is left in a mess night after night.
It's the same park where a few players were ticketed earlier this month.

Neighbors said sometimes there are as many as 500 cars near the park.

Cedar Point announces closure of iconic Mean Streak
Cedar Point will be saying good bye to one of its iconic wooden roller coasters.
The park announced the infamous Mean Streak will be closing for good in the upcoming weeks.
"Mean Streak has, and always will be a significant part of our roller coaster legacy at Cedar Point," vice president and general manager of Cedar Point, John McClure, said. "But we have our sights set on the future of Frontier Town, and unfortunately, that means Mean Streak has to leave our line-up of world-class attractions."

Video shows daring rescue of man from car
A man was rescued by witnesses, firefighters and police officers after driving his vehicle into Lake St. Clair.
The incident happened at Winthrop Place and Lakeshore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms.
The driver suffered a medical condition and drove a 2015 Cadillac into the lake.

Results in from August 2016 Michigan State Primary
Tuesday's primary election featured contests for open seats on the Wayne County and Macomb County circuit courts, as well as two open U.S. House seats and a chance for voters to set the stage for control of the state House, which Democrats are eager to win after six years of GOP control.
Voters also decided to renew a special property tax to help fund operations at the Detroit Zoo.
