DETROIT – A funeral mass was held Thursday for slain Wayne State University police officer Collin Rose.
Hundreds gathered at St. Joan of Arch Church in St. Clair Shores. Detroit Police Chief James Craig was among the speakers.
Rose was shot while investigating car break-ins in Detroit's Woodbridge neighborhood as he tried to arrest DeAngelo Davis, who faces murder and gun charges. Rose died days later in the hospital.
Rose was 29 years old and a graduate of Ferris State University. He was engaged to be married next October.
A public visitation was held Wednesday at Ford Field where K9 officers from across the state of Michigan gathered in a procession to pay respects.

A vigil was held at Wayne State University Tuesday night where Rose was awarded a citation for valor and posthumously promoted to sergeant. The vigil included a moment of silence at the time when Rose was shot one week earlier.
University President M. Roy Wilson said a $25,000 endowed scholarship is being created in Rose's name.
Gov. Rick Snyder ordered U.S. and Michigan flags to be lowered to half-staff Friday on all state buildings.
