Grandson arrested after grandmother is found dead in backyard of her Ypsilanti Township home

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Washtenaw Metro Dispatch received a call for a welfare check where they discovered a shallow grave in the backyard containing the body of a 73-year-old woman.

Officials discovered the body on Friday (May 17) at 10:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Warner Street in Ypsilanti Township after the family was concerned about their relative, who had not been heard from in several days, which was unlike her.

Officials say they entered the home and encountered her 29-year-old grandson but not the missing grandmother.

Once they had searched the outside of the home, they located the shallow grave in the backyard containing the grandmother.

The grandson was arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.
