Detroit teacher wins $10K while in audience of ‘The Jennifer Hudson Show’

Estelle Gantt, of Gesu Catholic School, wins prize

DETROIT – A Detroit teacher received a huge surprise while in the audience of “The Jennifer Hudson Show.”

Estelle Gantt, who teaches third grade at Gesu Catholic School in Detroit, won $10,000 from “The Jennifer Hudson Show” and Paper Mate.

The woman thought her corporate career was her dream job, but said she felt unfulfilled, and began substitute teaching part-time.

After her first time teaching, Gantt said the school told her they wanted to hire her as a full-time teacher.

Now, she’s been teaching for three years and is known around the school as “the love teacher,” because everyone loves to be around her.

Gantt discussed her $10,000 prize with Local 4, and when asked what she loves about teaching, Gantt said, “I love everything about it. To be able to pour into this generation is so important.”
