EASTPOINTE, Mich. – A 21-year-old man from Detroit who was shot outside an Eastpointe Foot Locker was charged in connection with the shooting that killed two people and injured another.

The shooting occurred on Saturday (May 3) at 2:45 p.m. in the Foot Locker parking lot on Kelly Road and 8 Mile Road.

Allegedly, Dejuan Jermain Taylor and his sister were in a business parking lot in Eastpointe when another group of individuals appeared, and an argument ensued between Taylor and the group.

Taylor soon got into a physical altercation with the group, one of whom had a gun.

Police said Taylor was soon overpowered and on the ground while the group continued to pummel him.

Taylor’s 19-year-old sister ran back to get her gun and then allegedly fired upon the group, killing two and injuring one from the group, along with injuring Taylor.

Officials said Taylor got up and allegedly took a gun and some magazines on the ground from one of the injured and then fled the scene with his sister.

His 19-year-old sister, who was involved in the fatal shooting outside the Foot Locker in Eastpointe, turned herself in.

The 19-year-old Detroit resident’s attorney contacted the Eastpointe Police Department and arranged for her to turn herself in on Monday (May 5).

Taylor was charged with:

  • Count 1: Tampering with evidence, a felony punishable by up to 10 years.
  • Count 2: Firearms larceny, a felony punishable up to five years.
  • Count 3: Carrying a concealed weapon, a felony punishable up to five years.
  • Count 4: Larceny less than $200, a misdemeanor punishable up to 93 days.

Taylor was arraigned in the 38th Eastpointe District Court, where a judge set his bond at $250,000 cash/surety.

The 21-year-old man was remanded into custody with the condition that if bond is posted, he must wear a steel-cuff GPS tether.

The probable cause conference for Taylor is scheduled for May 20, 2025, at 1 p.m., with a preliminary exam on May 27, 2025, at 1 p.m.

Police said they located a man deceased upon their arrival, and two more victims sustained gunshot wounds before EMS took them to a Metro Detroit hospital, where one of them succumbed to their injuries.

Shortly after that, officials said another man who sustained gunshot wounds was brought to the same hospital for treatment.
