Woman killed, man injured after shooting on Detroit’s east side

Shell casings found inside and outside of home, police say

DETROIT – A woman was found dead, and a man was injured after a shooting in Detroit early Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened at a home on Pinewood Street near 7 Mile and Schoenherr at around 4 a.m. on May 6, 2025.

When police arrived at the scene after receiving a report of multiple shots being fired in the area, they were approached by a man getting out of the home with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be okay.

Captain John Stewart from the Detroit Police Department said that as officers conducted their investigation, they found a woman in her 20s fatally shot inside the house. He said the suspect involved in the shooting drove away from the scene.

Stewart noted that there was a combination of shell casings from inside and outside the home.

He said no one is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
