2 face charges in Downriver sexual assault, kidnapping case

HURON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two Metro Detroit men are facing a dozen charges in a Downriver sexual assault case.

According to authorities, police in Huron Township received a 911 call just before noon Oct. 29 from a woman who said she had just escaped from a home in the Huron Estates Mobile Home Community, where she was assaulted. The woman said she was held against her will and was assaulted multiple times throughout the night.

The homeowner, identified as 52-year-old Albert Knapp, was taken into custody. The second suspect, 59-year-old Pontiac resident Stanley Mason, was arrested in Oakland County.

Both men have been charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to commit penetration and three charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The men are charged as habitual offenders.

Knapp and Mason were each given a $75,000 cash bond.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Nov. 12.
