OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A crash closed all of the westbound lanes of I-696 and portions of I-75 after Mound Road in Oakland County following a fuel spill.
The crash occurred on Thursday (March 26) when police said a semi driver went through a median wall, causing severe damage and a large concrete section, affecting both westbound and eastbound traffic.
Police initially said the westbound side was shut down, with traffic being rerouted onto Mound Road. Then the eastbound lanes were also shut down, ramping all traffic off to I-75.
Police said there was also a large fuel spill from the crash.
The freeway reopened overnight.
