“No Kings” demonstrations were held nationwide on Saturday, March 28, protesting the Trump administration. Several rallies took place across Metro Detroit, including Detroit, Taylor, Wyandotte, Ferndale, Troy, Sterling Heights, and Ann Arbor.

Organizers say the demonstrations are in response to ICE “terrorizing” communities, the war in Iran and attacks on civil rights.

While on vacation, Mare Swallow attended the Detroit rally at Grand Circus Park to express her frustration with the Trump administration.

“I believe in rights. I’m a daughter of an immigrant. We are all immigrants on stolen land,” she said.

Mike Spencer also attended the Detroit rally and said the Trump administration continues to violate the Constitution.

“The current administration has veered so far astray from what America stands for. They have blatantly violated the Constitution in a number of ways. They didn’t get congressional authorization for the war,” he said.

In response to the “No Kings” demonstrations, Oakland County Republican Party Chairman Vance Patrick argued President Trump is doing a great job and that the country is moving in the right direction.

Vance pointed to Trump’s actions at the border and the deployment of the National Guard to cities to fight crime.

“The country is a lot safer than it was, look at Washington, D.C. He’s cleaned up Tennessee,” he said. “I think if everybody gives Donald Trump the opportunity to work with them, this will be a lot safer country. We’ve got three more years of Donald Trump. Let’s try to work together.”

The first “No Kings” protests were held in June 2025.
