The investigation began on March 24, 2026, after Clinton Township officers conducted a welfare check on Shamekia Kelly, 36, following a caller’s report that she had failed to show up for work the previous day.
When officers arrived at her home, they found Kelly dead with multiple stab wounds.
After further investigation, Clinton Township police determined Fairfax allegedly killed Kelly, as well as stealing her car, phone and keys.
Fairfax was arraigned in court on June 11 and denied bond. He is scheduled to return to court on June 23 for a probable cause conference.
“The allegations in this case describe a brutal act of violence that claimed the life of a young woman. We are committed to pursuing justice on behalf of the victim and stand with her family during this difficult time. My office will work diligently to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible are held accountable,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
