DETROIT – A massive fire at a vacant warehouse facility on Detroit’s west side sent huge plumes of black smoke into the air Monday morning.
Firefighters and emergency personnel were dispatched to the building on N Green and Calahan streets around 8:30 a.m. and spent several hours working to contain the blaze. According to the Detroit Fire Department, the building was recently vacated and the building was empty, however signage on the warehouse reads “Cummings-Moore Graphite Co.”

The building suffered a partial collapse due to the fire, which has since been extinguished. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“Fire crews did an excellent job extinguishing this fire,” said Senior Fire Chief Reginald Harper. “The fact that there were no injuries is a testament to their hard work and great training.”
