Family speaks about their daughter's killer being locked up

DETROIT – Alfredo Rojas was in surprisingly good spirits when we spoke to him Wednesday after surviving a vicious attack earlier this week while on duty as an EMT.

"He pulled the knife out and slashed my partner and I stepped in to try to help her out," Rojas of the attacker.

Rojas and his partner, Kelly Adams, are both out of the hospital recovering from stab wounds to their faces and hands.

"I felt him hit my face and I thought it was just a punch. I didn't know he actually slashed me," Rojas said.

The man police arrested is 30-year-old Michael Montgomery. He was charged Wednesday, thanks to DNA evidence, with two different violent crimes including the sexual assault and murder of 16-year-old Dantoya White. Police say she was raped and stabbed to death in January of 2006.

"She was just a good-hearted God's child. She didn't deserve that," said Emanuel White,Dantoya's uncle.

Nearly a decade later, White's family is still heart-broken over her slaying but relieved by the news they received Wednesday.

"They got that dangerous person off the streets. I'm sorry that it had to happen to the EMTs to bring that forward but I'm glad they're all right and I'm glad the Lord got him off the street," White said.

Montgomery is in jail without bond. His next court appearance is set for Oct. 28th.
