DETROIT – A snow shovel marked the spot where a 34-year-old man was shot to death Monday on Detroit's west side.
Family identified the man as Greg Powell. They say he was clearing his neighbor's driveway when it happened.
Chris Graham was working just up the street.
"We were looking out the window, we heard two shots," said Graham.
He and his coworker tried to help Powell.
"I rolled him over on his side. It looked like he was shot in his face, so I couldn't perform CPR. So I started to perform CPR on his chest and kept him with us until EMS ... about 20 seconds before they showed up ... and he started to fade," said Graham.
Detroit police are reviewing a security video. A person who has seen the video said it shows the gunman firing once then firing a second time after Powell fell to the ground, and then running away.
Cheryl Webb is the victim's cousin. She said Powell lived with his 87-year-old grandmother.
"I just seen him last night when I left my grandma's house. The last thing we said to each other was, 'see you later,' and then I was like, 'Be safe,' and he was like, 'Be safe,'" said Webb.
She said Powell would take his grandmother shopping and make sure she had her medication.
"He's just a standup guy. Just a young man out here just taking care of his grandmother, taking care of his family," she said.
Police said they are looking for an African American man who was wearing a Carhartt jacket. He left the area on foot.
