Macomb County Sheriff: Drunk driver hits patrol cars and other drunk driver, who was pulled over

Video shows SUV slam into pulled over Mustang along Romeo Plank Road

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An underage drunk driver struck two Macomb County Sheriff's deputy vehicles and another underage drunk driver's vehicle early Saturday morning on the side of Romeo Plank Road near 22 Mile Road, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies first pulled over a 20-year-old Sterling Heights man on the suspicion of drunken driving at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

After placing the man under arrest, and while sitting on the roadside with the arrested man in the back seat of the patrol vehicle, a second suspected drunk driver drove past the scene. Video shows the vehicle slam into the the arrested man's Ford Mustang on the side of the road. The Sheriff's Office said the driver first sideswiped two Sheriff's vehicles. The SUV came to rest in a ditch along southbound Romeo Plank Road.

That second driver, who is also a 20-year-old man, was arrested, too. Both drivers were taken to the Macomb County Jail and given breathalyzer tests. The driver of the Ford Mustang had a .17 percent blood-alcohol content (BAC), and the driver of the Mercury, from Macomb Township, had the identical result (.17 percent BAC), according to the Sheriff's Office.

No one was injured in the crash. The Sheriff's Office said one of the two patrol cars that were struck had to be taken out-of-service due to the damage.

Both drivers are charged with operating while under the influence with a high BAC (1st offense).
